"Mou gaan dou" or "Infernal affairs" is a 2002 Hong Kong movie that tells the story of an undercover police agent infiltrated in a criminal association and a mole of the association in the police department: neither the undercover cop nor the mole know the existence of each other but eventually the situation becomes increasingly complicated until it is required by both of them to discover who is double-crossing.

If the plot sounds familiar it is because in 2006 Martin Scorsese directed "The departed", with Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Vera Farmiga, Alec Baldwin and others. "The departed" is the "Mou gaan dou" remake, with a very impressive cast, an award-winning director and a budget more than 10 times higher than the original picture. The American version of "Infernal affairs" grossed more than 100 million dollars and won 4 Oscars. Nevertheless unless you are a fanatic Leonardo DiCaprio fan (DiCaprio by the way was not awarded with the expected Oscar and there are rumors that much of "The departed" was made for that purpose), or a blindfolded yankee who despise any product which is not American (and not much of "The departed" is American), cannot help but to notice that "The departed" is not more than an imitation of the Hong Kong original picture, which deserves all the praises for the original screenplay and for the outstanding use of the photography.
